The Lab Technician will be responsible for supporting daily laboratory operations, ensuring accurate testing, proper sample handling, and timely report delivery. The role also includes equipment maintenance, documentation, quality control, and supporting lab administration processes.
Key Responsibilities
Sample Handling & Processing
- Receive outpatient lab requests with paid bills, verify, and approve in the LIS to generate lab requests.
- Mention lab test turnaround time on the bill.
- Run lab samples following proper technical procedures.
- Receive and handle OPD/IPD blood samples.
- Report Histopathology, Hematology, Cytopathology, Biochemistry, and all other lab reports.
- Ensure timely dispatch of all lab reports without delays.
- Check and manage referral lab investigations and sample collection.
Patient Interaction & Communication
- Receive patients politely with a pleasant smile.
- Attend telephone calls courteously and maintain phone etiquette.
- Deliver lab test reports after verifying patient bills.
Documentation & Record Maintenance
- Maintain files for department-wise test records, added tests, bills, and outsourced lab details.
- Maintain dispatch registers, duplicate report records, and all lab documents.
- Document internal quality control results.
- Ensure proper maintenance of equipment logs and records.
- Support the Chief of Laboratory Medicine with documentation tasks.
Quality Control & Compliance
- Establish, implement, and maintain internal quality control in the laboratory.
- Participate in EQAS programs and ensure satisfactory performance.
- Ensure proper biomedical waste management and staff awareness on disposal methods.
- Ensure SOP compliance and revise SOPs periodically.
- Take immediate action on any non-conformities.
Lab Maintenance & Support
- Maintain cleanliness in the lab and distribute linen in lab departments.
- Wash, dry, and sterilize glassware for reuse.
- Sterilize culture media and decontaminate culture plates for microbiology.
- Assist in departmental activities like collecting patient files, receiving items from stores, and managing lab inventory.
- Ensure proper monitoring and maintenance of lab equipment.
- Make small and urgent purchases through the admin when needed.
Team Support
- Review technician performance.
- Train new technicians and ensure adherence to lab protocols.
